Double-barred Finch

I followed a flock of these adorable little birds around for an entire morning, failing to get a photograph.

They were too nifty, moving in frequent little murmurs, never staying put for long, and always sticking together. It wasn't until I sat down for lunch that this cutie came by for a photograph.

It posed only for a moment long enough, before the flock departed and it zipped off to follow. There was such a nice level of co-operation between them. All these little birds, each making their own little decision to stick with the flock. They are safer there, with more ears and eyes to sense potential danger.

That was about the extent of my encounter with them, and I don't have a whole lot more to say. Other than how lovely the world is when we cooperate, and when we realise we're all in this together. I think of the Finches often when I'm making little decisions in life, and try to make those decisions based on what is best for the greater good - like they would.

Perhaps they've taught me that doing what’s best for the greater good, is the greatest good I can do for myself.
