Eastern Spinebill
Pictured here, the Eastern Spinebill in all its majesty.
I spent a couple of hours trying to get this shot, experimenting with shutter speeds to get the right amount of blur in the wings. In this time, the Eastern Spinebill flew from flower to flower, indulging itself on the sweet nectar.
I pondered, does it ever stop to think: do I deserve all this indulgence?
I can't help but feel us humans have created a complex where we think we need to deserve things first, before we are 'allowed' to enjoy them. We must work hard, and then get a reward. But in reality, we don't need a reason to treat ourselves. Treating ourselves can be a lovely display of self-love.
And when life offers us sweet nectar, we should take it, trusting that we deserve it.
How often do you treat yourself? What treat can you give yourself today?
