Flame Robin

Perched and proud with chest puffed out, I present to you, the Flame Robin.

These birds move me. There's something about how they share their true colours so proudly, yet so humbly. And the result is a beautiful and authentic expression.

It's so inspiring to be around people who freely and authentically express the beautiful parts of themselves. Or equally, when people proudly share their vulnerabilities and insecurities. Authentic expression of any kind is such a gift to the world.

In almost all art, performance, or expression, authenticity is the thing that cuts through. Whether the expression is uplifting and joyous, or dark and macabre, the presence of authenticity is moving. It moves a part of us. It makes us feel something. It inspires us.

Yet our self-expression is too often stifled by fear of what others will think of us. Or fear of not even garnering a response. It's a very human thing to feel the need for validation when we express ourselves. And when validation isn't forthcoming, it's easy to self-criticise.

But we can learn to soften this voice, for validation doesn't dignify our beauty. Beauty is beauty from the moment it is expressed. Freedom of expression will only come when we cease to care what other people will think, and just as importantly, when we create a space for others to freely express themselves around us.

The Flame Robin reminds us that our true colours, and our authenticity, are our gifts to the world.

Is there a part of you that wants to be expressed? Are you held back by the fear of being judged? Could you judge others less, and by doing so, free yourself from judgement?
