Rock Dove
You're probably thinking: "Hang on... they look like pigeons to me!".
Well yes, they are. In fact, they are 'Feral Pigeons'. That's what they're called in urban environments anyway. But in the wild they are called Rock Doves. Which is a far more flattering name, so that's what I choose to call them. And what a pretty bunch of Rock Doves if ever I did see some!
Much lamented, Rock Doves ought to be respected. They are, after all, thriving more than any other bird on the planet. How? By overcoming their fear of humans.
Sure, fear is a primal instinct. Intuitive fear is good for our safety.
The Rock Dove reminds me, that irrational fear however, suffocates my potential. Fear of failure. Fear of being disliked. Fear of asking dumb questions. These types of fear are illusions. It's only when I imagine a scenario going unfavourably that I create fear. I literally self-create fear. I can just as easily vanquish it.
Is there a part of yourself you're afraid to share? Is there something you've always wanted to do but you've been held back by fear?
Everyone has a voice in their head that says "I can't", or "I'm not good enough". And everyone who has ever reached their full potential has had to overcome that voice. So we can start noticing it each time it arises, and over time, slowly stop listening to it.
And when we’re afraid, we can look to the mighty Rock Dove! And walk right up to that unknown giant and eat the little crumbs of richness at its feet. What's the worst thing that can happen... being momentarily shooed away? Make peace with that outcome and step into fear.
When we overcome fear we go from surviving in this world, to thriving in it.
