Whistling Kite

I watched the Whistling Kite circle the sky whilst sitting atop a red cliff over looking the Murray River.

I found myself imagining life through its eyes, as it rhythmically circled, taking in all angles of the river below. It made me think about the idea of gathering new perspective, or seeking advice, especially when making life decisions.

I've started to broadly recognise two categories of advice. Advice that speaks at me, and advice that speaks to me. I much prefer when someone shares their experience with me, rather than telling me how to live. Nobody knows what it’s like to be in someone else's shoes. Everyone has their own private version of reality based on immeasurable intricacies.

I find the best 'advice' is actually not advice at all. I love it most when people share relevant stories from their life, as an offering that might spark or illuminate something in me. A new perspective comes as a reference point for my own inner wisdom. I like the idea that advice should ultimately just lead me back to what I already know within.

And so, I can circle the sky of advice for a while, taking in the different perspectives. And when ready, make the dive to the river below, with a knowing that has come from within.

The Whistling Kite reminds us the value in perspective, yet that ultimately, the strongest voice in our life should be our own.

Is there something in your life you are seeking a new perspective on? If you believed you had the answer within, what could it be?
